This Is The Most Maine Sound You’ll Ever Hear, And We Can’t Stop Listening To It
There's so much to appreciate about living in Maine. That's especially true if you're a fan of the water. Here in Maine, there's so much coastline to appreciate, and with it comes sights, smells, and sounds that evoke a deep sense of pride and nostalgia in us all. In fact, we think we've identified what we'd call the most Maine sound ever, and frankly, we can't stop listening to it. See if you agree!
Those who have lived in Maine long enough likely have many cherished memories of Popham Beach.
As Maine's busiest state park beach, it's a beloved place for families, swimmers, and nature enthusiasts of all kinds.
It's also somewhat of a geologic wonder. It borders the southern portion of the mouth of the Kennebec River and offers views of Fox and Wood Islands just offshore.
Most relaxing are the sounds of the waves gently lapping the shoreline. And while you could argue that this is common to any beach, we think there's something magical about this beach.
We recently stumbled upon a sound recording of Popham Beach, and it's nothing short of mesmerizing!
Whether you're missing the beach or simply can't get enough of the water, we think you'll agree it's perfectly nostalgic in every way.
You can listen to the recording of Popham Beach and browse other classically Maine sounds on the Sounds of Maine website.
