These Before And After Pics Of Sedgwick County Zoo In Kansas Show Just How Much It Has Changed
Sedgwick County Zoo in Kansas has undergone significant changes since its inception in 1966, evolving from small farm exhibits to a top location with diverse animal habitats.
Before and after photos are always something we love seeing, but have you seen the before and after photos of the Sedgwick County Zoo? Kansas sure has come a long way with all of our zoos, but this one has made the most changes we've ever seen. Come check it out for yourself!
1969 - Zoo made from scratch!
In 1966, work began on making our zoo dreams a reality. Little did they know that the original section of small zoo would grow to a top location in Kansas.
1971 - American and Asian Farms
Can you imagine the zoo only having these as the exhibits? Well, that was true! Farm animals were the first brought into the zoo before it opened, but it would soon grow quite quickly.
1971 Opening week at the farms!
I'm sure it helped to know that they didn't charge for the zoo until at least 1973. For most Kansans, I don't think farm animals would be too interesting to see anyways!
2019 - Asian Farm scene
Today, the zoo is ever-evolving and has a good mix of both new and old features as well as a huge selection of animals. In 2021, the zoo will have run for 50 years!
1972 - The African Veldt and Centrum
These tall wood and concrete structures are still there today, but the elephants have moved on to greener pastures.
2016 - Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley
Quite literally, too! They have been given quite the size expansion in their new habitat. That means new toys and more room for the rest of the animals at the African Veldt.
1980 - Australia and South America.
We love seeing how far the zoo has come over these last 40+ years. I don't think they dreamed it would turn into what we have today, but I wonder what the next 40 will bring!
We love the SCZ but if you've got a smaller zoo in mind or another great place we should visit, tell us about it! We're always taking suggestions on this page here.
