12 Things Everyone Who’s Moved Away From Iowa Has Thought At Least Once

Iowans often miss unique aspects of their home state after moving away.

Iowans know that this is home, but sometimes we have to move. A new job, school, or life circumstance sometimes means that you have to leave the Hawkeye State. Here are 12 things that people have told us they've thought at least once after moving.

1. "I can't believe how expensive housing is in the rest of the country!"

We love our low housing costs.

2. "No one here seems to know how to make Scotcheroos."

If you've moved away from Iowa, it's your duty to teach your new neighbors how to make these.

3. "The corn at the grocery store in my new state is nothing compared to that Iowa corn from the roadside stand."

There's nothing in the world like Iowa sweet corn.

4. "It sounds silly to miss a grocery store, but there's simply no replacement for Hy-Vee."

That's because there isn't a replacement.

5. "I miss my morels."

You can't get these beauties in every state, you know.

6. "Turns out they don't have Maid Rite in my new home state."

No Maid Rite? We can't even imagine this.

7. "I'm glad I raised my kids in Iowa."

The Hawkeye state is the best place for an idyllic childhood, there's no doubt about it.

8. "Driving in Iowa was much less stressful, that's for sure."

Oh, those wide-open country roads...

9. "College football just isn't the same."

You'd be hard pressed to find a better rivalry than that of Iowa-Iowa State.

10. "Iowa has the best State Fair in the country, hands down."

You probably can't even fathom this, but other state fairs don't have huge butter sculptures and a sky glider.

11. "Iowans are the best people ever."

Sure, other people are friendly, but Iowans are the friendliest, nicest, most grounded folks you'll ever meet.

12. "I want to go home."

Come on back!

Have you ever left Iowa? If so, what did you miss the most?
