11 Undying Habits That Prove You Can Never Take Indiana Out Of Hoosiers
Eleven habits that define true Hoosiers, regardless of where they live now.
Whether you've lived in Indiana your whole life or moved away, there are some things that will never change if you're a true Hoosier. No matter what place you call home now, here are 11 habits that prove you can never take Indiana out of a Hoosier.
1. Believing that all corn should be farm fresh
We're big on corn here in the Hoosier state and we know that frozen corn just doesn't taste the same. Nothing says summer quite like the first bite of freshly shucked sweet corn.
2. Calling all carbinated beverages "coke" or "pop"
Depending on where you're from in Indiana, you're going to call this syrupy beverage "coke" or "pop" - no matter what the actual brand is. Soda, what's that?
3. Getting rid of unwanted items by tossing them into a bonfire
Trash, mail, ripped clothing? If you don't want it anymore, Hoosiers like to burn it away in a bonfire.
4. Living for basketball season
Hoosiers may be divided on college teams (namely IU vs Purdue), but one thing we all agree on is that basketball season is the best season.
5. Believing everything is better deep fried
What do chicken, pork, onions, potatoes, pickles, butter, oreos, and vegetables have in common? They all taste better deep fried!
6. Never trusting the weather reports
It's not that you don't believe in meteorology - you just learned from an early age that weather is fickle and you should always be prepared for anything.
7. Pulling out lawn chairs whenever there's a tornado warning
Hoosiers love storm watching and waiting for a glimpse of a tornado is always great fun. Don't worry, we're always safe and know when to go inside.
8. Always greeting strangers
It's a friendly habit we'll probably never grow out of, because it's just how you were raised.
9. Avoiding the alcohol aisle on Sundays
Even if you're in a new state now, buying alcohol on Sundays is a strange concept to you.
10. Wearing shorts in "cold" weather
As soon as the weather warms up to a brisk 50 degrees, you're declaring it shorts season.
11. Feeling a great burst of pride whenever you're asked where you're from
Whether you still live here or are on a journey elsewhere, telling folks you're a Hoosier just makes you smile.
