One of the most crazy things that happened in Georgia is something many Georgians don't have any idea actually happened— and it happened at The Marshall House Hotel.

In Savannah, one of the oldest cities in the state, The Marshall House Hotel is just as popular now as it was way back when. But perhaps there is a different clientele than there once was. This hotel has been used as a hospital THREE times in the past. Crazy right? This may explain exactly why this hotel is known as one of the most haunted places in the entire state. Since opening in 1851, the hotel was used as a hospital three times: Once by the Union Army during the Civil War, and twice for yellow fever epidemics during the 19th century.

During the Civil War, the hotel was occupied by General Sherman and used as a Union hospital until the end of the war.

The weather in 1864 was not favorable to the soldiers. It was an extremely cold year and the ground was frozen solid often.

Rather than being able to bury amputated legs and arms in the ground, the doctors had no choice but to bury them under the floorboards.

During hotel restorations in 1999, workers were replacing some damaged floorboards downstairs, when they found human remains.

The area was closed and treated as a crime scene. It was then that everyone soon learned that the basement had once been the hospital surgery room.

Since the discovery, it's been noted that many paranormal happenings have occurred.

From hearing the sound of a typewriter in their room, to seeing a Union soldier with just one arm wandering through the lobby, carrying his lost arm and looking for a surgeon, crazy things have happened in The Marshall House Hotel. Even in the basement, there have been sightings of stretchers being carried with bodies on them, and sometimes even amputated limbs scattered on the basement floor...
