St. Augustine, Florida is said to have been settled in 1565, which for those of you who are familiar with U.S. history will know that that is 55 years before the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock.
It is no wonder that St. Augustine is nicknamed America’s First Frontier by many historians. In fact, St. Augustine has been cited as being the oldest continuously occupied European-Established settlement within the U.S.
Even in the 1930’s when the video footage was shot, you can still see the landmarks that make St. Augustine so recognizable, as well as the special Spanish architecture.
The city of St. Augustine is just as beautiful and charming as it was decades ago. But the video footage will show quite a few differences between now and then, like the horse drawn buggies that took visitors around town to check out the sights.
While the views of St. Augustine to this day are captured in color, there is still something so fascinating about old video footage that highlights the way life used to be.
