Arizona’s Very First State Park Is Full Of Fascinating History

One of the best state parks in Arizona also happens to be our very first state park. Located in the small town of Tubac, Tubac Presidio State Historic Park protects 2,000 years of fascinating Southwest history.

Tubac is the oldest European community in the state, and Tubac Presidio State Historic Park preserves 2,000 years of fascinating Southwest history.

There's lots to see and do here, including a museum with permanent and rotating exhibits.

You'll see everything from early Native American artifacts to the printing press that printed Arizona's first newspaper in 1859!

You can also tour the second-oldest schoolhouse in Arizona, dating to 1885.

The one-room structure is a step back in time - guests can even sit at the desks and imagine being a student there!

Outside, patio exhibits showcase various aspects of life in Spanish Colonial times.

Learn how people lived, cooked, and worked during the era, perhaps even getting to see a living history display.

Eight separate gardens are perfect for strolling on a nice day.

Spanning 11 acres, the gardens feature everything from flowers and succulents to herbs and vegetables. There's also an interactive children's garden for the little ones.

Other attractions include an archaeological excavation exhibit, an art gallery, an original adobe house, and a Visitor Center with a gift shop inside.

There are also special events hosted throughout the year, including historical reenactments.
