You might assume you know what is illegal in Alaska; however, that might not be the case. All around the country, there are strange laws that seemed to have slipped under the radar and gone unnoticed for quite some time, and Alaska is no exception - there are quite a few weird laws in Alaska. Just about every city and state has a few entertaining laws that are still in effect to this day. Here are some of the weird Alaska laws that can technically still get you thrown in jail!
1. It is illegal to whisper in someone's ear while they are moose hunting.
You can be sure that living in Alaska is never boring! Need some convincing? Here are some of the strangest things you’ll see on Alaska’s backroads.
2. Yawn and stretch! While it is legal to shoot bears, waking a sleeping bear to take a photograph is prohibited (not to mention, beary rude).
If you want to view bears, you should head on out to Brooks Camp, a beautiful campground nestled within the Katmai National Park and Preserve.
3. It is considered an offense to feed alcoholic beverages to a moose. So just don't do it!
This is definitely among the silliest laws in Alaska. But even stranger still to think about, is who was feeding the moose alcohol to begin with?! Well, turns out, Alaskans are a strange bunch. Not so sure? Take a look at weird things people from Alaska do.
4) This one is kind of obvious but just so you know, it's illegal to sell stun guns to children.
Also, a child isn’t allowed to build a snowman taller than himself at school! Another weird law in Alaska most don't know about.
5) Who doesn't love a good toot on a vuvuzela? Well, guess what, if you're in Fairbanks, Alaska, don't even think about it!
It’s illegal to blow a horn in a manner that disrupts the peace. There’s actually quite a few funny laws in Fairbanks. There’s more to Fairbanks than strange laws, though. One of the most underrated towns in Alaska, it’s got a lot to offer.
6) It’s illegal to fatten up a sheep, cow, or pig within city limits... wow! Just another one of the bizarre laws in Alaska.
You can’t fatten up animals within city limits, but you can interact with them… at this Alaska zoo.
7) Lock up those children! It’s a crime to speak so loud that you offend a sensitive person enough to make him/her leave in Fairbanks.
Strange Alaska laws and Fairbanks seem to go hand-in-hand. And that’s not too surprising. Fairbanks is one of the most unique towns in Alaska, after all.
8) We're pretty sure this kid isn't old enough to carry... A person may only carry a concealed slingshot if that person has received the appropriate license.
And in Nome, Alaska, you can’t carry a slingshot at all. That's not the only unusual thing about Nome, though. It's also among the most mysterious places in Alaska.
9) For the final and perhaps strangest of these wacky laws, it is considered an offense to push a live moose out of a moving airplane.
There’s an unusual story behind this, and it all started with a Moose Dropping Festival out in Talkeetna! And while pushing moose out of planes is frowned upon, it’s totally acceptable to admire them from afar. There are lots of places to view the majestic creatures, including this vacation house, one of the best Airbnbs in Alaska.
From now on, when someone asks, "What is illegal in Alaska," you'll have lots to tell them! So, which of these weird laws in Alaska do you find funniest? Did you know about these weird laws in Alaska? Are there any other strange ones we’ve missed? Let us know!
