The Eagle’s Eye View From This South Dakota Tower Is Positively Breathtaking
Joseph N. Nicollet was a 19th century explorer who spent time mapping the upper Mississippi River valley, leading three separate expeditions into what is now South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota. He was considered one of the most accurate mapmakers of his time. Many years after his death, Nicollet Tower was built to honor his legacy.

You'll also want to visit the Interpretive Center, which documents Nicollet's life and has Great Nicollet Map, along with an informative film and some murals painted by John S. Wilson.
Visit the tower and Interpretive Center for free. It’s open Monday through Friday 10:30 am to 5:00 pm; Sunday 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
