The St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church In South Dakota Is An Absolute Work Of Art
With 86% of South Dakotans describing themselves as Christian, it should come as no surprise that the Mount Rushmore State is brimming with beautiful churches of all sizes. While many of these places of worship are well-known, others are somewhat hidden and little-known, including the work of art that is the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church:
Located on the campus of the St. Francis Mission, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is one of 7 parishes on mission grounds that serves the 20,000+ Lakota (Sioux) Native Americans on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.
Founded in 1886, the mission of St. Francis is to re-evangelize the already Catholic Lakota and assist the rest of the community as needed with not only their churches, but suicide prevention program, museum, recovery center, and dental clinic.
While parishioners have their choice of where to attend, St. Charles Borromeo remains a favorite thanks to not only its eye-catching exterior but...
...The jaw-dropping interior as well.
If you have the pleasure of visiting this magnificent church, make sure to keep an eye out for all of the extraordinary details, including the intricate paintings, colorful stained glass, and life-like statues.
Mass times at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church take place every Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
