Cemeteries are supposed to be quiet, peaceful places where those who have passed away are laid to rest. The Independent Order Of Odd Fellows (IOOF) Cemetery in Gregory, South Dakota, is a pretty little cemetery…but many people believe that it’s haunted.
The IOOF Cemetery in Gregory, South Dakota is the final resting place for just over 1,200 people...but some say that not everyone who was buried here is at peace.
People see him in broad daylight, wandering amongst the headstones. They say that he looks confused, as though he's searching for someone. Some believe that he's reading the names on the gravestones as if he's trying to locate a specific grave. But when people approach him to offer help, he vanishes right in front of their eyes.
Some visitors report hearing the cries of a woman; others say they've heard laughter when no one is around. At dusk, some see strange lights or hear footsteps.
No one seems to have specific information about who these ghosts may be. Most of the activity seems to be non-threatening, and the cemetery seems like a peaceful spot, even if some of the people you might see wandering about are no longer alive.
