We are often known as the land of "Great Faces, Great Places" and yet, few people know the following nine celebrities are famous people from South Dakota. From talk show hosts to baseball players, we are super proud of our fellow talented and famous South Dakotans.
1. Bob Barker

2. January Jones
January Jones is known for her starring roles in Mad Men, X-Men, and American Wedding. Born in Sioux Falls and raised in the tiny town of Hecla, January is one of the famous people from South Dakota who is a true native.
3. Brock Lesnar
Hailing from Webster, South Dakota, Brock Lesnar is now a four-time WWE Champion. Lesnar learned the value of hard work while growing up on a dairy farm with his parents and three siblings. That hard work is paying off now as he continues to dominate the world of professional wrestling.
4. Mike Miller
Mike Miller was raised in Mitchell, South Dakota. This extremely talented basketball player played in the NBA and is currently the boys' head basketball coach at Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee.
5. Adam Vinatieri
A Yankton native and four-time Super Bowl Champion, Adam Vinatieri truly makes South Dakota proud. Vinatieri played in the NFL for 24 seasons with the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts as the kicker.
6. Tom Brokaw
It may come as a surprise that this NBC Nightly News anchor is originally from South Dakota. Tom Brokaw was born in Webster, South Dakota and attended high school in Yankton. After dropping out of the University of Iowa, Brokaw received his bachelors degree in Political Science at the University of South Dakota. He continues to show love and support of his home state by returning to visit and take part in charity events throughout the year. He is certainly one of the most respected celebrities from South Dakota.
7. Chad Greenway
The small town of Mount Vernon is the original home of NFL linebacker Chad Greenway. During his high school career, Greenway was also famous for his extreme athleticism. He played basketball, baseball, and ran track during his years in South Dakota.
8. Mary Hart
Did you know that the infamous Mary Hart of Entertainment Tonight is originally from Madison, South Dakota? Not only is she the longest running host of the celebrity gossip-themed show, but she was also Miss South Dakota and a semi-finalist in the Miss America pageant.
9. Mark Ellis
Last, but certainly not least, is former Major League Baseball second baseman Mark Ellis. Ellis was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota and is one of a trio of players to come out of Rapid City and make it to play in Major League Baseball.
Out of a state with less than one million people, it is always amazing to see the talent and dedication that is grown here.
