If you've spent any time traveling through South Dakota, you'll know the drives can be tiring. The drive from Sioux Falls to Rapid City is about five hours, but luckily this restaurant is also a rest stop that will satisfy your every need. Whether you're taking a break from driving, or happen to be in town, this restaurant will transport you back to a time where a cup of coffee was only five cents — and it still is!
Welcome to Al's Oasis!
This rest stop restaurant in Oacome, just west of the Missouri River, is the perfect stop when traveling from Sioux Falls to Rapid City.
Not only is this the perfect spot for tired travelers, but Al's is a destination restaurant for everyone. With this huge buffalo statue out front, it's hard to miss.
The business originally start as a small grocery store in 1919, and has since grown to house a full-service restaurant, grocery store, as well as many gift and clothing shops.
The best part: the coffee prices haven't changed since 1919! Al's still serves up coffee for five cents, no matter what.
This five-cent coffee is best paired with their equally addicting award-winning pies. You have to try the meringue.
Other favorite dishes here are the chislic, juicy steaks, or meatloaf that's as good as (if not better than) grandma's.
Al's sure has come a long way, and after many expansions now serves 350,000 meals and 50,000 slices of pie every year.
Al's Oasis isn't just the perfect rest stop - it's a delicious restaurant with an old time charm from their exterior to their perfect cup of joe.
Al's Oasis can be found at 1000 E. South Dakota Highway 16, Oacoma, SD.
