What better way is there to chase away the winter doldrums in South Carolina than with a visit to a u-pick daffodil farm? As luck would have it, the unseasonably warm winter in much of the Palmetto State has inspired the daffodils at the U Pick Daffodil Farm in Bluffton to bloom a bit early. Yay us! Here’s what you need to know about this charming day trip:
The buttery daffodil is usually a spring perennial but it seems the bulbs at the U Pick Daffodil Farm in Bluffton have been thoroughly charmed into an early bloom by the warm winter sun this year.
Any visit to simply see the blooms is sure to warm your heart. But at this farm, you can pick your very own to brighten your home in the middle of winter.
Before you go, you should know that not all of them bloom at once, and the farm gets a bit of local traffic seeking blooms and is known to run out of daffodils — for the day. Your best bet is to arrive early in the day before the blooms can be cut and purchased by others.
Because the u-pick season is so dependent upon blooming flowers being available, the hours and days vary. Usually the farm is open on most weekends, as well as many days during the week — but visitors should still check the Facebook page for the latest updates before traveling out to the farm.
How much do they cost? That's a fair question... and so is the price! According to the farm's website, the u-pick daffodils are 30-cents per stem. Pre-picked blooms are available for a mere $6.50 per pack of 20.
