The South Carolina Store That’s In The Middle Of Nowhere But So Worth The Journey
Who’s up for an adventure and a bit of history, all rolled into one excursion? The area just to the south of Sumter is filled with country roads and nostalgic places; some of the businesses here have been around for more than a century.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/nominate/
A visit to the oldest general store in South Carolina (and maybe even the oldest in the country!) is a nostalgic step back in time, and also supports a local community in South Carolina. Lenoir Store is located at 3240 Horatio-Hagood Rd., Horatio, SC 29062. It’s open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The post office is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
For more nostalgic wandering, head to the tiny community of Rembert located only a couple of miles up the road from Lenoir Store. Take a peek at this previous article to see this unique village where time stands still.
