Just because we are under a blanket of snow here in Rhode Island doesn't mean we can't enjoy fresh produce and dairy products. This is thanks to some wonderful winter farmer's markets we have here in our little state. Here are a few of the places we can continue to enjoy summer's bounty during the chill of winter.
1. Pawtucket Winters Market, Hope Artiste Village, 1005 Main St., Pawtucket
This farmers' market goes on no matter what the weather. Find locally grown produce like vegetables, apples, artisan cheeses, fish, eggs, and everything else you need for your chemical-free living resolutions.
The market is held every Saturday, November 4th through April 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
2. Aquidneck Growers Market, Newport Vineyards & Winery, 909 East Main Road, Middletown
Find pasture raised meats, fresh picked fruits and vegetables, local seafood, baked goods, and a whole lot more. Enjoy supporting the local economy, listening to live music and enjoying delicious food. The market takes place year-round on Saturdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
3. Mount Hope Farm Farmers' Market, 250 Metacom Ave
Bristol, Rhode Island
The Mount Hope Farm farmers' market moves to their gorgeous antique barn for the winter months. Explore to find fresh produce, mushrooms, local honey, seafood, refreshments, and live music in the lively atmosphere. The market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The temperatures are unbearable and the storms have only just begun, but Rhode Islanders can continue to get fresh, local food all winter long.
