It's hard to compete with the miles and miles of stunning shoreline of the Ocean State. But for those of you looking for a beach day a little closer to home, there is one freshwater spot that can hold its own against the coast. Olney Pond (which might as well be called a lake) is in the heart of Lincoln Woods State Park and it's the perfect spot for some summertime fun.
Lincoln Woods State Park is a 627-acre park popular for its endless recreational opportunities. From hiking to horseback riding and fishing to bouldering, this park is one of Rhode Island's gems.
The park surrounds the freshwater Olney Pond and features a sandy beach creating a refreshing spot to enjoy those hot summer days.
The pond has a gradual slope giving the younger members of your family plenty of shallows for splashing around and deeper portions for swimming.
With beachside picnic tables, restrooms, and a bathhouse, you can spend the whole day at this inland beach comfortably.
Explore even more of the lake by renting a kayak or SUP at the REI boathouse right at the park!
Lifeguards are on duty seasonally from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and beach season kicks off Memorial Day Weekend which is right around the corner.
