Discover the hidden beach at Ninigret Park in Rhode Island. Calm waters, family-friendly vibes, and a perfect summer escape.

If you're looking for a great beach day in Rhode Island, it's tempting to head straight to one of the popular spots right on the Atlantic. The white sand and tumbling waves at these beaches are always a big draw for both locals and tourists alike. But not far from those coastal hotspots is a lesser-known inland beach in Rhode Island with clear waters that offers something a little different than the big-name locales. Ninigret Park is home to Little Nini Pond and may be as close to the Caribbean (in a small-scale way) as you can find in New England. You won't find a better way - or place - to spend a warm day than at this hidden beach in Charlestown, Rhode Island.

Why Ninigret Park’s Hidden Beach Stands Out

On those hot summer days, there's no better way to cool down than a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Little Nini Pond. This family-friendly swimming destination is found at Ninigret Park in Charlestown. Locals know all too well the relief this pond brings in the summer, but it's still a bit of an underrated Rhode Island park for most.

Ninigret Park may not have the largest beach or the most expansive views, but it's one of those secret gems that Rhode Islanders take pride in. Hiding in plain sight under our visitors' noses, this swimming hole is a refreshing change from our bigger beaches.

The snug sandy beach also features picnic tables in a grassy area. What goes better with a day at the beach than a delicious picnic? Not much, right?

What It’s Like to Swim at Little Nini Pond

Little Nini Pond is ideal for families. The clear and calm waters are perfect for younger children and reluctant swimmers. You can stand in the shallows and splash around or head out further for a dip.

Lifeguards are typically on duty during the summer season. You can even lie down in the water right near the shore. And if you don't wiggle or make a lot of noise, some of the resident fish may swim over to say hello. The clear water will reveal the fish that call this pond home. You don't even need a snorkel or a mask to check out the marine life!
