You Need To Visit Modern Diner, An Epic Train Car Restaurant Right Here In Rhode Island

Despite what its name might imply, Rhode Island's Modern Diner is a long-standing local treasure. Not only does it serve classic American cuisine that has been around for over a century, but it's also the first diner in the nation to be listed on the National Register for Historic Places. But "modern" is not what we seek when we visit this delightful diner. Its history is just one of its many charms.

Modern Diner is located in Pawtucket.

It sits nestled in one of two known surviving Sterling Streamliner diners still in operation. The Sterling Streamliner a line of "modernistic" diners manufactured in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

This particular diner was manufactured in 1940.

Originally located at 13 Dexter Street in Pawtucket, it was moved to its current location in 1984 to avoid demolition (for which we are thankful).

With a fascinating history and a unique atmosphere like this, you might wonder about the food quality. Rest assured, it is amazing.
