From stunning Gilded Age mansions to well preserved colonial homes, Rhode Island is filled with impressive historical architecture. While many of these places still serve as private residences, others have been maintained as house museums. These museums offer us the opportunity to experience what life was like long ago. Few compare to this gorgeous house found in Providence.
As one of the most stunning examples of Renaissance Revival style architecture in the nation, Lippit House can be found at 199 Hope Street in Providence.
The home was built in 1865 by former governor of Rhode Island and textile magnate, Henry Lippitt.
Inside the home features 30 beautifully decorated rooms across its three levels.
Lippitt House is considered among the most impressive preserved Victorian style interiors left in the country.
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976, the house continued to be recognized as one of the most historically significant places in the state.
Tours are offered on weekends from May until December through Preserve Rhode Island.
Group and private tours, as well as private events may also be booked year-round.
