Paddling Through Ninigret Pond Is A Magical Rhode Island Adventure That Will Light Up Your Soul

We have so many ways to explore the beauty of Rhode Island’s landscape. However, it’s probably fair to say that most of us do that by slipping on a pair of hiking boots and following one of the nearly 400 trails that dot the state. However, there’s another unique and peaceful way to see Rhode Island in a whole new light. Paddle along Ninigret Pond, for example, for an unforgettable Rhode Island adventure.

One of the best ways to get to know Ninigret Pond in Charlestown is to slip your kayak or canoe into the water and follow the Ninigret Pond Paddle Route.

Be prepared for somewhat of a challenge along the 6.2-mile loop water trail that scores a moderate rating from most adventurers. However, the scenic rewards certainly make the effort worthwhile.

One of the masterpieces of Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge, the more than 1,500-acre pond promises the opportunity to view a variety of wildlife.

However, you first have to find the kayak/canoe launch dock, which means going to the East Entrance of Ninigret Park. To reach the launching point, you'll travel down a short road.

There, you can drop off your kayak or canoe before going back to the lot to park your car.

Chances are pretty good that if you're seeking peace and quiet, you'll find it here. The paddle route tends to be on the quieter side, with not a lot of explorers.

Those who venture onto the water, however, will be treated to sensational views of the pond and the resident birds.

Those bird species commonly seen on Ninigret Pond include gulls, Osprey, and wood ducks.

Bring your smartphone or camera along to snap photos along your journey. You never know what wildlife or unique scenery you'll pass.
