Let's go on a hike today, PA! Even with technology, toys, and books, kids get bored. Combating that boredom is as easy as getting outdoors, breathing in the fresh air, and going on a fun hike. This kid-friendly hike in Pennsylvania, for example, isn't too long, boasts a ton of gorgeous views, and will definitely keep the kids interested.
Chickies Rock Overlook Trail, in Lancaster, clocks in at just a half-mile, but that half-mile certainly packs a lot of punch, especially when you reach the scenic overlook.
Find both the parking lot and the nearby trailhead on Chickies Hill Road. (Your GPS may also recognize it as Route 441.)
While the trail features plenty of shade, you'll probably still want to bring water along, especially on a hot day.
Fortunately, the trail is predominately flat, so you won't have too many surprises or rough terrain to take on.
When you come out of the forest area, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the Susquehanna River. On clear days, you can also see nearby Columbia, Marietta, and Wrightsville.
The overlook provides the perfect backdrop for photographs. You can capture beautiful landscape shots, too. (The trail itself earns rave reviews from parents with little ones, too.)
Be prepared for the trail and the overlook to be crowded, especially if it's nice outside. The trail is wide enough to accommodate a stroller, and leashed dogs are allowed.
