Explore The Ruins Of This Abandoned Bottling Plant In Pennsylvania

We don’t always need a history book to explore Pennsylvania’s rich history. In fact, we can visit many of the state’s historical sites, including Valley Forge National Historical Park, to get an insider’s view of yesteryear. Valley Forge offers the perfect backdrop for history lovers and adventurers to explore its 3,500 acres. You can even check out the most fascinating abandoned bottling plant in Pennsylvania if you’re up for a bit of hiking.

More than 30 miles of hiking trails wind through Valley Forge National Historical Park, about half an hour from Philadelphia, some leading to fascinating reminders of the past.

Horse Shoe Trail, for example, leads to the ruins of the Colonial Springs Bottling Plant.

The trail is rated moderate, so be prepared for somewhat of a challenge, especially if you're not an avid hiker. Keep an eye out when you're walking, and especially if you're running, for rocks jutting up out of the ground and for rough terrain.

Tallying just over 4.5 miles, Horse Shoe Trail is perfect if you want to bring your pooch along. (Just keep him leashed.)

While you'll pass wildflowers and flowing streams, you'll likely find that the highlight of the trail is the ruins.

The Colonial Springs Bottling Plant dates back to the late 1800s and saw its heyday in the beginning part of the 20th century.

Surrounded by lush vegetation, the ruins of the bottling plant offer a peek into the past and provide a pretty backdrop for photographs.

For a smooth hike along the Horse Shoe Trail, which will take you out of the national park, follow the yellow trail blazes.
