According to the 2018 Real ID Airport Enforcement law, residents of Oklahoma may need to remember one more thing as they plan to travel. Whereas before it was acceptable to present a driver’s license for domestic flights security, this will no longer be the case. Here’s more on the new law and how it could affect your travel.
Starting January 22nd 2018, residents of Oklahoma will need to bring more than their driver’s license when they make any sort of travel plans — even domestically.
According to the TSA, certain states have not complied with the Real ID Act of 2005, which outlined a list of minimum security features on state driver’s licenses. These states include Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Montana, Missouri, Minnesota, Maine, Kentucky, and Washington.
As a result of this, the TSA will require residents of these states to bring an alternate form of ID, such as a passport or military license, as part of the standard traveling procedure.
Anyone who’s been traveling lately may have noticed that the TSA has already started to put up signs indicating this new standard and when it will go into effect.
If the state can reissue driver’s licenses that will comply with the government’s security, residents may be able to return to the traditional security standards. Until then, residents of Oklahoma might want to get those passports updated for next year.
