Celebrities Used To Flock To This Tiny Oklahoma Town To Experience Its Healing Mineral Waters
We have featured the charming town of Medicine Park in previous articles, but you may not know about its healing mineral waters that used to draw in celebrities from all over the country. Back in its prime, Medicine Park was a bustling resort town known for its cobblestone streets and water that had healing powers. Socialites, politicians, outlaws, and celebrities would vacation here but not just for rest and relaxation. Medicine Creek flows right through town, and its water is coveted by travelers looking for healing properties. Today, it’s not the bustling resort town it once was, but it’s still a charming town worth visiting.
Medicine Park was founded in 1908 as the first resort town in Oklahoma. The town actually got its name from the healing properties in the water from Medicine Creek that runs through town.
The Great Depression hurt tourism and the town fell into disarray until the 1980s when the town won a grant and began restoring it back to its glory days.
Today, travelers still visit Medicine Creek and the swimming area called Bath Lake. It's very popular during summer and is a great spot to cool off in the hot weather.
The town sits at the base of the Wichita Mountains and offers beautiful nature scenes. Native Americans still believe the water has healing properties today, so take a trip to this charming town and see what you think for yourselves.
