There’s No Highway In The World Like This One In Oklahoma
There are a lot of things that make Oklahoma unique. From our topography to our quirky attractions to the shape of our state, there are some things you just can’t find anywhere else. One such place is Sidewalk Highway – an old portion of Route 66 in Ottawa County that is only 9 feet wide.
Sidewalk Highway was completed in 1922 and, at 9 feet wide, it's only a little wider than your average sidewalk.
Oklahoma was a new state at the time and didn't have the funds to make a complete highway. They were desperate for a paved road that ran from Miami to Afton, so they decided to build only half a highway.
