Sometimes there's no better way to spend a morning or an afternoon than outdoors, breathing in the fresh air, and going for a brisk or a leisurely hike. For an easy hike the whole family will enjoy, follow Bromide Hill Trail in Oklahoma. It boasts an abundance of natural beauty, possible glimpses of wildlife, and a spectacular overlook.
Nestled in Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, Bromide Hill Trail spans just 2.4 miles, but it packs a lot of punch in that short time.
While the trail is considered moderate by some, other hikers point out that the relatively flat trail, which ascends just 140 feet, is really on the easier side. It's also perfect for kids and dogs.
The trail is predominately paved, although you'll probably still want to wear a pair of comfortable shoes even though you won't deal with challenging terrain.
Bring your camera along, too, because you'll have picture-perfect views of Rock Creek and a variety of trees and plants, including cactus.
You might even catch a glimpse of wandering or resting bison. Chickasaw National Recreation Area is known for its bison, armadillos, rabbits, and opossums.
Bromide Hill Trail can get really busy, especially on the weekends, so be prepared for crowds if you go on Saturday or Sunday.
Once you reach the overlook, you'll be treated to sweeping views of Chickasaw National Recreation Area. On a clear day, you should be able to see for several miles.
