Few things are as strangely relaxing as books and, on a totally unrelated note, antique shopping. Bookstores and antique shops both have a certain kind of quiet magic to them; they feel like the kind of place you can (and will) easily get lost in for hours. Hidden within the town of Guthrie is a wonderful little shop where both the bookstore and antique store vibes are strong - Treasures and Books is a bookstore in Oklahoma that offers, well, just a little (or maybe a lot) more.
It all began when the Boyetts - a wonderful couple from right here in the Sooner State - began selling goods, antiques, and odds and ends at a booth in a little local antique shop.
When it was suggested to them that they could simply buy the whole shop instead of renting a singular booth, well, they did. In 2010, this quaint local favorite shopping spot became Treasures and Books, and the Boyetts got to work at filling it with all sorts of unique, vintage goodies, all the books you could ever need, and so much more.
Today, you'll find more than plenty of things to check out while you're here.
It's all too easy to get lost when there are books around, but add antiques and other interesting vintage wares to that, and you've got yourself a whole afternoon of browsing to do.
Of course, while you're here, you might run into the employee that seems to be just about everyone's favorite: her name is Smokey, and she's a beautiful black cat who may or may not help you make your purchasing decisions.
She knows her stuff, though, so we suggest listening to her. She works for scritches. Unfortunately, no, Smokey is not for sale.
You'll find records, furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles, jewelry, and so much more.
The possibilities are really only as endless as your imagination - what could you do with an old pair of 1970s curtains? How would you decorate your new tea room using vintage furniture from days of old? It's up to you!
Oh, and don't forget: there's also all the Guthrie gear you could ever ask for, too.
Treasures and Books is truly a wonderful little place well deserving of its passionate fanbase and adoring regulars. There's always something "new" here - well, new to you - and there's always things to check out. You really never know what you'll find today.
...and, as we mentioned, Smokey will be there to help if you need her.
So, what are your thoughts? Do you have a favorite bookstore in Oklahoma? Does it also have antiques? Tell us about it in the comments! Are you planning to go pet Smokey and take a look at some of her wares? You definitely should; we are. See you there!
