This Wondrous Wetland Marsh In Ohio Used To Be A Farm, And It's Absolutely Glorious

We’ve all heard of #TransformationTuesday, but these photos on our Instagram feed generally pertain to new ‘dos or home makeovers. Not, say, a wetland marsh that used to be a farm in Ohio. And yet, here were are, telling y’all about Howard Marsh Metropark, a glorious oasis just outside of Toledo, Ohio that’s had quite a marvelous transformation. Let’s take a look…
A birding hotspot, Howard Marsh is one of Toledo's shining metroparks; a beautiful expanse particularly well known for waterfowl and shorebirds. It's also, as it were, located on land that once housed a real, working Ohio farm.
Today, Howard Marsh Metropark is adjacent to Metzger Marsh Wildlife Area in a region that also includes Maumee Bay State Park, Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, and the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Together, these local, state, and federal public lands provide a perfect biome for Buckeye State birds -- these parks are celebrated for their concentration of warblers, in fact.
