I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Winter in Ohio is a beautiful time of year, and we’re all for lacing up our boots and hitting the trails. While known places like Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Hocking Hills State Park offer amazing cold-weather recreation, there’s a little-known park in Ohio that transforms into an ice palace in the winter.
Big Creek begins in the highlands near Chardon, Ohio. Flowing through hardwood forests, hemlock ravines, and commanding rocky ledges, it joins the Grand River near Painesville. The rock formations along the banks are dramatic and beautiful, providing a glimpse into the area's geologic history and past.
Beautiful all year round, this 63-acre park has some lovely hiking trails filled with flora and fauna that feel like Middle Earth during the verdant days of spring and summer.
Anglers praise Big Creek for its clean water and world-class steelhead fishing. Creekside trees and plants stabilize the bank, provide shade, and cool the water, making for an especially dramatic scene in the height of fall foliage.
Winter, however, might be our favorite time of year at this little-known Ohio park. Not only does a dusting of snow turn Big Creek at Liberty Hollow into a winter wonderland, but if you're lucky, you'll get to experience a real-life ice palace in Ohio!
The steep gorges and rocky outcrops set the stage for a winter scene complete with frozen waterfalls and sharp ice sheets, seemingly suspended in time.
