A Visit To This Lamb Farm Just Outside Of Cleveland Will Bring You Closer To Farm Life Than Ever Before
Between the nonstop traffic and the glowing neon lights, Cleveland can feel like a concrete jungle at times. Sometimes city residents can’t help but long for a rural escape… something that can, fortunately, be found in the less developed portions of Cuyahoga County and neighboring communities like Summit and Geauga Counties. Whether you’re in search of stunning views, fresh produce, or an opportunity to explore our region’s agricultural roots, you will find it at this one lamb farm near Cleveland. Bring a camera, because this trip is one you’ll want to remember.
Since the 1800s, this property (which formerly existed in Boston Township but has since been absorbed by the Village of Peninsula) has hosted gorgeous farmland. The Garvey family originally owned the landscape, having purchased it sometime in the late 19th century. Amazingly, there's no evidence that the Garvey family ever actually farmed the landscape... though it's possible it was leased to tenant farmers.
As time marched on, this site would host pastures, gardens, an orchard, and a vineyard before being acquired by the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in 1977.
Under the management of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, this landscape was ultimately protected from further development. In 2007, The Spicy Lamb Farm secured a 60-year lease.
The Spicy Lamb Farm now consists of 12 acres, and it's here that visitors can immerse themselves in the wonders of a working farm.
Tours and classes can be booked on select Saturdays, so prepare to immerse yourself in the wonders of farm life! Tours must be booked at least one month in advance. You can find more information here.
The Spicy Lamb Farm also makes a gorgeous backdrop for performances and dinners, so you'll want to plan on attending at least one special event here.
Special events are typically offered during the warmer months at The Spicy Lamb Farm. Keep an eye on their website and Facebook page for details about upcoming events.
The farm's stunning landscape also hosts the annual Cuyahoga Valley Sheep Dog Trials (CVSDT).
This annual competition tests the expertise of herding dogs by challenging them to herd sheep through a number of trials. Spectators are welcome at this fall event, so make sure you plan ahead to visit during autumn season!
Whether you're attending a special event or stopping by to stock up on meat and produce, you're sure to have a great time at The Spicy Lamb Farm.
Imagine designing a dish around delicious and fresh ingredients sourced directly from the farm. Now that's sure to leave your guests impressed!
While Cleveland itself can feel like a concrete jungle at times, our agricultural roots still thrive in communities and suburbs just around the corner.
Cleveland is far removed from farm life, but locals can still explore our region’s agricultural roots in local markets and surrounding farms. Have you ever visited this incredible farm? Share your experience in the comments!
