Lock 3 Park in Akron is transformed each winter by the appearance of colder temperatures and winter snow.
Located just 40 minutes south of Cleveland in neighboring Summit County, Lock 3 is an effortless day trip. This vibrant park has delighted locals since its unveiling in the early 2000s.
Each year, the park unveils its 10,000-square-foot ice rink to delight and entertain visitors.
As the largest seasonal ice rink in Ohio, it's no wonder visitors come from all over to experience the wonders of Lock 3. Its annual seasonal celebration, WinterFest, kicks off in late November and continues through February.
While their ice rink is the main attraction each winter, there's much to do throughout the course of WinterFest.
Wintertime movie showings, indoor Polar Putt Putt, and visits with celebrities like Elsa from Frozen make this annual season of celebration perfect for the whole family. You can find a full list of events here.
In previous years, WinterFest has grown bigger and better with the addition of groundbreaking modern attractions like ice bumper cars.
This quirky wintertime activity was an instant hit with fans and has since settled into the regular wintertime schedule of events. They share the ice rink with skaters, and visitors are quietly obsessed with this wintry sport.
The latest and greatest attraction at Lock 3 is its ice bikes, and this is an attraction you have to see to believe.
Ice bikes, also playfully referred to as ice-cycles, combine the wonders of sledding, skating, and biking all at the same time. They have a sled-like contraption on the bottom that glides across ice, and peddles and manpower make them soar.
Ice bikes can be enjoyed Tuesday through Sunday. Rides span 18 minutes and cost just $10.
