The Oldest Hotel In San Francisco Is Also The Most Haunted
San Francisco’s oldest hotel has an illustrious, haunted, and colorful past. The Palace Hotel opened in 1875, but fire destroyed the original structure after the 1906 earthquake. It was quickly rebuilt and has since seen several celebrities and world leaders stay here. In fact, some have even died here, including President Warren Harding. With such a history it seems only appropriate that it would be a favorite spot for ghosts to linger in. And though it may not be the President gliding through the hallways, there has certainly been plenty of paranormal activity reported at this historic hotel.
The Palace Hotel is located at 2 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco. Check out the Palace Hotel website to book a room.
The Palace Hotel is a San Francisco monument of architecture and is easily accessible from busy Market Street. Take a look inside and explore the fascinating and haunted history here.
The haunted history at The Palace Hotel is so extensive that there is even a tour, put on by San Francisco City Guides that documents all the haunted ghost activity.
There are claims of a poltergeist that locks itself in the dining rooms. And yet another ghost, a mysterious French girl from another century, that has been spotted in the hotel kitchen asking for soup.
The creepiest story is of "The Lady in Red,"a succubus who wanders the halls and walks through the walls of rooms where businessmen traveling alone are staying, paralyzing them in their beds with fear.
It was in one of the Palace Hotel suites where President Warren Harding died in his sleep on August 2, 1923. The nature of his death and the circumstances surrounding it are still somewhat of a mystery.
