San Francisco is a wonderful town for food. Now, if you’re looking for a family kitchen rather than fancy or trendy eating establishment then read on. Look no further than this wonderful list of down to earth restaurants.

1. Franchino - 47 Columbus Avenue San Francisco, 94133
If you want a true family kitchen then this is the best place on the list. Why? The owners are from Sarno, Italy and Franchino is still a mom and pop restaurant. All of the pasta here is from scratch, so it is fresh and super tasty! A big hit is homemade Gnocchi with red, white & pesto sauces. Order a glass of red wine, eat pasta, and order dessert.
2. My Father's Kitchen - 1655 Divisadero St, San Francisco, 94115
This is a welcome and innovative place for fresh and family style Vietnamese food. Expect great pho and friendly service. Try out this spot in Lower Pacific Heights.
3. Mama's on Washington Square - 1701 Stockton St, San Francisco, 94133
Mama's is popular, so prepare yourself before visiting. The owner at Mama's bakes the breads, makes fresh jam, and morning sweets and hearty dishes for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. The faves are the griddle specialties, Egg Benedict, and Monte Cristo.
4. Bella Trattoria Italiana - 3854 Geary Blvd, San Francisco, 94118
Another wonderful and friendly Italian restaurant. If you want hearty portions and great food then look no further. Bella Trattoria specializes in food from Southern Italy. The pasts dishes are well recommended.
5. Darwin - 212 Ritch Street, San Francisco, 94107
Darwin is a homey spot with an intimate vibe. Darwin Cafe has been attracting a loyal following of foodies. Darwin Cafe specializes in seasonally focused salads and small plates. Be prepared for lines as this place is popular for lunch and brunch.

You can't go wrong with a home cooked Italian meal. La Ciccia is an intimate restaurant on the outskirts of Noe Valley, known by neighborhood locals. It's owned by the husband-and-wife team Massimiliano Conti and Lorella Degan, who delicately craft authentic Sardinian dishes with a specialized focus on fresh seafood. They also offer several Sardinian wines to pair perfectly with your meal.
8. L'Osteria del Forno - 519 Columbus Avenue, San Francisco, 94133
This place feels like it could be a kitchen or small restaurant in New York or even Italy. The food is simple with authentic products imported from Italy. The restaurant is quite small, so this feels like your'e in someone's home. Since opening in 1990, this restaurant has remained homey and intimate.
