8 Off-The-Grid Destinations In North Dakota That Will Take You Away From It All
If you feel you need to get away from it all, and we mean really get away, then North Dakota might have the just the spot for you. There are plenty of cities and small towns here, but between them there are huge expanses of land with some of the most remote places you can find. These are great for immersing yourself in nothing but nature with no interruptions. They will truly take you away from it all.

This is literally the most remote spot in North Dakota, out in the Fort Berthold Reservation near Lake Sakakawea. It is at least a couple miles from any road and far from any town, and it is beautiful. You can learn more about it here.

Skip the busy hotels and campgrounds in Medora and experience the sights of the badlands at this beautiful lodge. It's perched up on the top of one of the buttes and overlooks the scenery in the best way. Way out in the southwest corner of North Dakota is the state's highest point, White Butte. You can hike up the butte's trails and see the huge expanse of prairie below. This spot is pretty far from civilization and it'll make you feel you are hundreds of miles away from it all. The closest town is Amidon, a tiny town with only 21 residents.

This huge grassland encompasses both units of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park and then some. It is absolutely massive and has lots of options for trails, camping, and scenic routes by road, all of which will take you far away from everything.

Way up north near the Canadian border is this stunning state park. It's near Cavalier, North Dakota, and not much else. The wetlands, dense forests, and gorgeous Lake Renwick make this spot a fantastic place to immerse yourself in nature.

Down in the south central region of North Dakota in what is known as the Prairie Coteau - one of the largest natural native northern tallgrass prairies in the country - is a lodge that has everything you need for a wonderful, relaxing getaway. Up in the northwest region of North Dakota is this quiet and beautiful wildlife refuge. There are tons of birds here that make it a fantastic birding spot. You can get out of your car and take a hike on one of their trails or take an auto tour from behind the wheel.
