The most iconic view of North Dakota's nature is one that should be on everyone's bucket list. This spot has been seen by many and continues to awe people from its sheer beauty. It's a unique spot that nowhere else in the world looks like - and it's incredible. Photos don't do it justice, so make sure you see this place in person at least once. The iconic Painted Canyon overlook in North Dakota is one that everyone should see. The panoramic views seen here are like none other.
Dawn or dusk, rain or shine, the natural formations fittingly named the "painted canyons" are gorgeous.
The unique landscape seen here is incredible to see in person. Formed over millions of years from build up of different colored layers of sediments, followed by slow erosion to reveal them.
This particular overlook is the perfect place to see this. It is located right off of I-94. Take exit 32 and pull right into the parking lot, get out, and enjoy the view.
Don't be surprised if you see bison next to the road here. There are many of them and they are another part of why this place is so special.
The overlook also has trails connected to it that you can take to not only see the badlands, but also head down into them.
The Painted Canyon Overlook is beautiful to behold any time of the year. It's lush and green in the spring and summer and even more colorful in the fall.
If you visit between May and September you can take advantage of the Painted Canyon Visitors Center with interesting exhibits and information about the area.
It's just one of those incredible places you must see to be able to fully appreciate, and everyone should do it at least once.
