Who doesn’t love delicious, made-from-scratch baked goods? This small town cafe has that and so much more. If you love German food, especially, you absolutely must visit this place. It may be a bit out of the way but it’s worth the extra miles to enjoy fresh, perfectly made cakes, pies, kuchen, German cuisine, and more.
The Home Plate Cafe is an iconic part of Fredonia, North Dakota, a tiny town with only 44 residents. It's a bit of a drive from any bigger city, but it's worth the journey for the delicious homemade food.
Every day, food is made fresh from scratch inside the cafe's kitchen. Pies, cakes, soups, and more are all made with care and love and it's proven with how good they are to eat.
You can get North Dakota favorites like kuchen, either in slice form or even bar form, and also fresh, gooey, tasty caramel rolls. Whether you come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you would be a fool to leave without trying some of these baked treats.
The Home Plate Cafe doesn't just pride itself in from-scratch baked goods; all of their food is made with the same philosophy. Hand-pressed beef patties are used on their burgers, and the fries are fresh-cut.
All of their fried chicken, whether it be in smothered in gravy or made into chicken strips, is hand-breaded and made with special recipes of seasoning and has a taste that's hard to beat.
Daily soups and specials are also made there, including knoephla soup or knoephla dishes, which is great for those chilly North Dakota days or when you want to reminisce about grandma's kitchen.
Whether you indulge in one of their sweet, fresh baked goods, a fantastic German meal or classic American dish, The Home Plate Cafe has a bit of it all, and all of it is made to perfection right there within the walls of the restaurant.
The Home Plate Cafe is open every day of the week except Mondays, from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM on Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Sundays. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
If you love German food like the kind that’s served here, you’ll also love this more modern, urban restaurant in ND taking those classic dishes and giving them new twists.
