Take a stroll through history in North Carolina at Horne Creek Living Historical Farm in Pinnacle. This incredible space showcasing the state's rural past was once owned by the Hauser Family. As much of it has remained intact, strolling through Horne Creek gives an authentic peek into how farm life was in the 1900s. In addition to the family's original farmhouse, the site features, a corncrib, a tobacco curing barn, a working farm, and a heritage apple orchard. Throughout the year special programs take place at the site, from ice cream socials to the upcoming, annual Cornshucking Frolic on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Let's take a look at this interesting historic site in North Carolina.
This photograph of the Hauser Family was taken in approximately 1909. From 1876 to 1900 they gave birth to 12 children — 11 boys and one girl.
Charlotte Hauser's 55th surprise birthday celebration took place in 1913 when an "official school holiday" was created in her honor.
Today, folks are invited to tour the house and grounds for free, Tuesday–Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Historical displays include hand-sewn quilts and clothing, such as this sweet dress.
Hard work went into everything back then, when the fabric was first woven on a loom by Thomas Hauser's stepmother Polly, who then made the dress.
Demonstrations take place during special events, such as cornshucking, crosscut sawing, and heritage crafts.

Since Horne Creek Living Historical Farm is a working farm, you'll meet adorable animals, such as this furry, baby lamb.
The Southern Heritage Apple Orchard boasts an impressive 850 trees of 425 varieties.
The old varieties have been painstakingly collected throughout the south to preserve this unique part of the area's agricultural heritage.
Singing hymns, eating sweets, and playing party games were traditional activities of the 1900 frolic of rural North Carolina.
