For two days of cultural enrichment and just some down-home fun, visit this small-town harvest festival in North Carolina. Halifax County Harvest Days takes place on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 21, 2023, in the historic town of Halifax. Since 1992, this celebration has promoted Southern hospitality, heritage, and agrarian culture in the county. Admission to this festival is free, inviting you into the area's rich and interesting past.
Plan on attending one of the best festivals in the state, showcasing how we used to live.
Offer your talents in an art and photography contest, shop from the craft and food vendors, or just look around at the pretty grounds.
Old methods of farming and transportation are part of the Agricultural Museum tour, inside a huge, rustic barn.
See up close the antique equipment and hand tools used in farm life in the early 1900s, and compare them to the technology used today.
Watch old-time demonstrations of how a sawmill was operated, of peanut threshing, woodworking, and other activities from historic interpreters.
Live performances are offered throughout the day on the outdoor amphitheater.
The Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe is an important part of the Halifax County heritage.
This exhibit alone is enough to draw us to this event, offering creative artistry in the composition of these beautiful machines.
They will also be featured in an antique tractor parade.
Or we can be led around by one on a hay wagon ride.
As folks can see, there's more than one way to get around.
Old-fashioned carriage rides are offered by members of the N.C. Work Horse and Mule Association.
The little ones love this trip through the grounds in their own tiny cars.
And yes, those people on the left are jumping in cotton. What a terrific way to learn about the area's agriculture as North Carolina is the seventh-largest producer of cotton in the country.
And don't forget to visit the sweet, friendly farm animals.
They eagerly await our visit.
