Located in Linville Gorge Wilderness near Jonas Ridge, the trail is about 2.1-miles long and gains almost 700 feet in elevation but is still one of the best kid-friendly hikes around North Carolina.
Hikers with good stamina will be able to tackle this trail in under an hour. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace should budget one to two hours.
The trail winds its way through forested land that’s filled with wildflowers in the spring and summer. Birds, squirrels, and deer are frequent visitors to the trail.
The last quarter of the trail is rather steep and rocky, so you’ll need to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. However, the view is well worth the effort and it will be clear why this is one of the most scenic hikes in the state.
When you reach the top, you’ll be treated to some of the most gorgeous views in North Carolina.
