North Carolina is home to more than 15 public ocean piers and all are wonderful in their own way. The very next time you're near Nags Head, you'll want to be sure to visit the Outer Banks Fishing Pier - and the amazingly fun seafood restaurant that seemingly sits right over the surf.
The laid-back pier restaurant is appropriately and cleverly called Fish Heads.
It's located right behind the bait and tackle shop on this pay-to-enter pier that stretches an impressive 600-feet into the Atlantic (imagine the length of two football fields).
The restaurant's name is in line with the fresh seafood served here on the regular.
From boiled shrimp to fried fish bites and hot dogs, burgers, and more, the menu has something that's sure to please everyone.

And so is the view! Chow down and devour some of the best seafood the Outer Banks has to offer while gazing out at the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.
The bright and airy outdoor seating — along with an ocean breeze you'll come to love — make this an eatery you'll talk about for ages. And while you're here, you may be too enamored with the view to talk with each other!
With decor befitting of a restaurant right over the ocean, Fish Heads has you covered (literally) with surfboards that suit any daydream you may have while you're kicked back and enjoying the delicious food and beautiful views. (No, you can't use them to surf, not literally, but you can dream.)
After your meal, enjoy a stroll all the way out the 600-foot pier (and without paying the entry fee!).
Time your visit perfectly, and you'll also enjoy some live music on the pier.
