One of the largest shines in America is located right here in North Carolina. It's an entire valley and its corresponding hillsides that are dedicated to both Jesus and the Bible. In addition to the replica tomb where Jesus was laid to rest and the replica golgotha where He was crucified, this shrine in North Carolina also features some larger-than-life bible-themed attractions.
Welcome to the Fields of the Wood, a massive and free Bible-themed park located in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Visitors here can't help but feel moved in this sacred space. The park features the colossal Ten Commandments Mountain — the largest display of the Ten Commandments in the world. Walking up the steps to the crest of the mountain may make you feel especially blessed to physically journey through the Ten Commandments of the Bible.
Climb each step to the top and you'll find yourself on top of the mountain at the base of a 30-foot bible.
The park features some especially moving replicas, including the golgotha, a replica of the stone-faced hill in Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. Each Easter, the park hosts a Easter celebration that includes special moments at this sacred spot on the property.
Not far away sits the parks replica of the tomb in which Jesus was laid to rest. The door is always open, of course, because He is risen.
Visitors can plan to spend at least two hours exploring this free bible theme park carved into the valley with many moving attractions that travel up the hills. Many people find some reflective moments throughout that park and leave feeling especially blessed to have visited.
It's easy to consider spending an entire day at this little-known shrine in North Carolina. The park is home to a small cafe as well as a gift shop. Visitors can feel free to stay for lunch and eat it in the peaceful picnic area while still in view of many of the park's mammoth features.
Want to visit? It's almost always open and always free (donations are accepted, if you feel so inclined).
Fields of the Wood is open every day. The hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The cafe and gift shop may have slightly different hours. You can learn more by visiting the official website and by following the Facebook page. Did you know this gigantic shrine in North Carolina was here? We'd love to know!
