There’s Nowhere Else In The World Like This National Forest In North Carolina
With Thanksgiving coming up, many of us might be planning a long, beach weekend away with friends or family. While you’re at North Carolina’s pristine coastline, there’s one place you must explore. From pine forest, marshes, perfect spots for kayaking and even a Venus Fly Trap or two, Croatan National Forest is a must visit.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate
The 160,000 acres consist of raised swamps (pocosins), long leaf pines, saltwater estuaries, black bears, and incredible plant and animal life, as well as trails great for a day hike in unique wilderness. The forest is bordered on three sides by tidal rivers and the Bogue Sound, making you feel as though you are completely surrounded by water.
The unique display of nature, in all its forms, is what attracts so many people here. From unique trees hanging over wide bodies of water, to rare flowers and plants tucked inside dense coastal forest.
You can explore the forest on foot, kayak, or boat. While many aren't up for a 100-mile hike, various parts of the Saltwater Trail can be reached by car. Popular trails include Tideland National Recreation Trail, Neuse River Trails, and Patsy Pond Nature Trail. Many people escape here for the seclusion. It could be miles before you see another person. You're truly alone in what feels like uncharted wilderness. While Croatan has many secluded spots, it's still safe and perfect for families, solo hikers, or those looking for quick adventure.
As the only true coastal forest, it’s a must explore in North Carolina! You really won’t find coastal landscape or coastal solitude anywhere else. From kayaking, fishing, hiking, or boating to general exploring, it’s a place you’ll want to visit time and time again. Have you ever visited here?
