The Last World War II Destroyer Escort Is Floating Here In New York’s Capital

Greeting you as you arrive in Albany, you'll notice along the city's riverfront that there's one historic ship that doesn't quite look like all of the rest and that's the USS Slater.
During World War II, more than 560 Destroyer Escorts battled Nazi U-boats out on the ocean, but out of all those ships, the USS Slater is the only one that's still afloat in the United States.
Laid down in 1943, since its original creation the historic ship has undergone major restoration throughout time to preserve this fascinating piece of history.
With the ship open for tours between Wednesday and Sunday each week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the USS Slater makes for both an intriguing weekday or weekend adventure.
