The Largest Bookstore In New York Has More Than 2.5 Million Books

The Strand Bookstore is one of the most famous independent bookstores in the world. It is the largest bookstore in New York, and has over 23 miles of books! The Strand is an absolute behemoth that takes up three and a half floors on the corner of 12th and Broadway. It has 230 employees and 2.5 million books.

A Lithuanian immigrant named Benjamin Bass founded the store in 1927. The store was originally located in an area known as "Book Row" because it was so popular with booksellers.
