50 Years Ago, A New York Airport Runway Was Turned Into The Stormville Flea Market And It’s Still Active Today
Here at Only In New York, we love discovering attractions that have been transformed throughout the course of the destination’s history. In the past, we’ve featured restaurants that were once
firehouses and even McDonald’s restaurants that are situated inside of historic homes, our state truly has it all. If you’re up for discovering more attractions that have undergone major transformations, then see how this former airport runway is now one of our state’s longest-running flea markets. Take a look!
What started off as a little six-table flea market back in 1970 is now entering its 50th year of operation, and it just so happens to be doing so on a massive 115-acre airport field. Say hello to the Stormville Flea Market & Antique Show!
Last year you may have heard about the fact that the Stormville Flea Market was in danger of losing the land it hosts the show on, but thankfully, it has now been announced that the flea market will be officially returning in 2020.
If you're unfamiliar with this event, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stormville Flea Market, now one of the largest flea markets that you can find here in New York State.
Each year, you'll find six opportunities on the calendar for you to come and visit the flea market in April, May, July, September, October, and their final Christmas in November weekend that they conclude with.
Returning again on April 25 and 26, New Yorkers and visitors from beyond can come and shop through more than 600 vendors.
While many of the vendors that you'll find set up here at the Stormville Flea Market have made their way here from around New York, you'll also find vendors from more than eight different states in attendance as well.
With so many vendors at the flea market, you'll be amazed at all the different kinds of vintage goods and treasures that you'll be able to find here.
As you spend the day shopping around, you'll come across everything from nostalgic gems, clothes, locally-made crafts...
...furniture, jewelry, household items, plants, and vintage trinkets you haven't seen before your own eyes in years.
Plus, this is one flea market you can bring the entire family to! Aside from the handfuls of delicious food trucks that are bound to keep you buys, the flea market also has entire area designated for kids where you can find bounce houses and all sorts of fun activities throughout the day.
Free to attend and even free parking available, there's no excuse to miss out on visiting one of the six Stormville Flea Market & Antique Shows this year.
