This Easy 2.2-Mile Hike Will Take You To A Remote Slot Canyon In New Mexico
While there are many enchanting hikes in the Land of Enchantment that will take you to scenic overlooks, beautiful lakes, and stunning waterfalls, there is one hiking trail in New Mexico that is truly spectacular. The Jemez East River Slot Canyon Trail will take you along a creek to a breathtaking slot canyon, waterfalls, and a natural swimming pool. This is a hidden gem in New Mexico that you’ll want to revisit time and time again.
The Jemez East River Slot Canyon is located near Jemez Springs in the Santa Fe National Forest. Bring your camera as the area is stunning and photo-worthy.
You won’t have a long or difficult climb to reach this remote slot canyon in New Mexico. It is a 2.2-mile out-and-back trail that is rated easy and has very little elevation gain.
At the end of the hike, you will come to a remote slot canyon. The canyon isn’t large but it is beautiful and the perfect area to immerse yourself in nature, relax, or play in the creek.
As you continue walking past the slot canyon, you will come across several gorgeous waterfalls and natural swimming pools. Some of these falls and pools are awe-inspiring.
These natural swimming pools vary in size and depth. However, some pools, such as the lower pools, are fairly deep. These pools are popular for swimming. Just make sure you bring extra clothing and a towel as the water can be very cold.
