Basically everybody agrees snow can be quite magical — but that it also has serious downsides. And one of those many downsides is that while snow transforms forests and state parks into actual winter wonderlands, the snow also makes it pretty darn difficult to go hiking.
Well, if you're missing nature but a little afraid of downhill skiing (hey, it can be scary!), there is a middle ground: snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. And luckily, in New Jersey, you can find truly excellent snowshoeing trail options at High Point State Park, and you can rent any equipment you need at the High Point Cross Country Ski Center. So head on over to the ski center, grab yourself some shoes, and glide across the icy fairytale forest that is High Point State Park in the winter.
High Point State Park is always absurdly beautiful, but there's something just so magical about it in the snow.
When you're out here, you're surrounded by nature.
And snowshoeing or cross-country skiing really is the best way to experience that in the winter. You're basically gliding across the snow.
It's a slower pace, but it means you have time to appreciate the sights around you and the quiet of the state park.
Don't get us wrong — it can feel just as arduous as hiking sometimes. But it's worth it, trust us.
So, the next time there's a lot of snow, you know what to do. Plan a trip to High Point Cross Country Ski Center, rent some snowshoes, and get out there!
Rental prices vary at High Point Cross Country Ski Center: An all-day rental for an adult on the weekend is $25. However, you also have the option to do a half-day rental, and many people will find three hours to be more than enough time out snowshoeing for them.
