We may not be Wisconsin but New Jersey does churn out some mouthwatering cheese! If you're struck with a craving for delectable dairy, there's really only one place to go...Valley Shepherd Creamery! While we do have a few incredible cheese shops, Valley Shepherd offers so much more.
Let's start with the cheese...
Valley Shepherd's Sheep Shoppe offers all of Valley Shepherd’s products: cheeses, yogurts, gelato, butter, meat, lamb skins, etc. You can also find a myriad of handmade, artisanal products, such as jams, honey, crackers, and lanolin soaps. Milking over 500 sheep, 100 goats and 50 cows, Valley Shepherd utilizes European traditional methods to produce 30 raw and pasteurized cheese varieties! You'll find Ricotta, Saffronella, Nettlesome, Crema De Blue, and Fresh Goat Cheese. You can also find Valley Shepherd's cheeses at select local farmers markets.
Here's how it all began...
Originally intended to be a meat-only business, the owners discovered this was not the most sustainable option. Following several vacations to Europe, the focus became cheese-making. After additional visits and research, Valley Shepherd Creamery was born. Inspired by Pyrenees-style cave aged cheese, they produce their very own unique artisanal creations. Several have even won awards!
But you can do more than just buy cheese!
Valley Shepherd Creamery also offers tours. You can see sheep sheared in March and April or take a tractor ride to their cheese cave from August-November. Summer tours are going on now, Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Tours last 60-75 minutes. You'll also find cheese-making classes and wine and cheese tasting dinners.
