This Beautiful Long Distance Hike In New Hampshire Has A Mouthwatering Restaurant Right Along The Trail
After the long-distance Appalachian Trail crosses the Connecticut River into New Hampshire from Vermont, it runs through the town of Hanover. If you’ve been walking since Georgia, this probably seems like an oasis. If you’re out for a day trip along the AT, it’s a great place to begin or end your section hike. No matter what kind of hiker you are, you are going to need to feed the body, so bring your appetite to Lou’s Restaurant & Bakery on South Main Street. It’s a fantastic trail restaurant in New Hampshire.
Lou's Restaurant And Bakery is located in downtown Hanover along the short stretch of the AT that follows roads through the town center on its journey northward toward Maine and southward toward Georgia.
Lou's got its start through the vision of Lou Bressett. He invested in a failing local establishment with the dream of running his own coffee shop and bakery. That vision was realized when the restaurant opened its doors in 1947.
Since its founding in the post-World War II era, Lou's has continued to be a staple of the Upper Connecticut Valley region. It's changed hands over the years but the commitment to Lou Bressett's original vision has never wavered.
For AT thru-hikers entering New Hampshire for the first time, Lou's might be their introduction to cider donuts. These classic apple cider treats are dense, cakey, and absolutely delicious.
No matter if you are thru-hiking the AT or just starting a section of it here in Hanover, you're going to need fuel. Why not start the day at Lou's with a classic breakfast sandwich? And of course, don't skip the fresh-brewed coffee.
Alternatively, if you are finishing up a hike in Hanover, you might want to replenish all those calories that were burned off. Lou's has your protein craving covered with items like their Sergeant Major Burger.
Lou's realizes that different people have different tastes. In addition to their more traditional menu items, dishes like the Tea Smoothie Bowl are available. This delicious meal is made with matcha tea, a natural antioxidant.
